Recent Purchased things

After back to Japan, I purchased some goods for biking and life.

One is shoes for usual use.
It is Soucany "Outlaw" shoes.
Soucany released many colorful running shoes, however this Outlow is Black color!! They said, Outlaw is for XC running looks heavy-duty!!

It is very light weight!! And good fit for my feet.
So, my Euro size is 42.5.

Sole stiffness is very good tuned I think. I purchased from UK, price is about 6500JPY, but in Japan shop is 13000JPY!! Twice!!

Another is head light for my bicycle.
Usually I ride to bike in early morning on 5:00 or 5:30. Summer season is already after sunrise, not necessary head light, however now sunrise time is over 6:00, middle winter is 6:50!! I have to equip head light and switch on!! For safety.

My choice is Cateye HL-EL540RC
Supplier URL is;
http://www.cateye.com/uk/products/detail/HL-EL540RC/moreinfo/

I think it has best performance in LED light products.

Cateye's data

With my bike (fixedgearbike)

It is very good light!!
If ride in no light road, I can see road condition well!!

Battery is 4X AA size(rechargeable)
On time is about 5hours. It is suitable for my usual use. If I ride in dark longtime, I have more 4 AA batteries.

This light is so big and heavy, but it's safe!!

Chain broken

Hi,

Last Sunday, it was little bit cold. Was it returned winter??
I did ride fixed gear bike 50km. I had a trouble that my bike chain link was broken!!

I was riding at 20km from my home. Suddenly my crank did no reaction force!!
I did stop the bike immediately and confirm, chain derailed from rear cog. I think it is strange because single gear bike chain line is straight!! It has not push force of side direction.

I putted chain on cog again and re-started. I hear some noise from chain, confirm again during riding.....a point of chain was bending!! I stopped again and check carefully.

Oh my gooooood!! Chain link was broken!!
See Photo!!

However, I was lucky because broken link plate only inside!! Still connected!!
I had no chain connection pin and chain cutting tool.....I decided to return to home with broken chain.

I had to ride carefully especially in starting situation. I kick the ground hardly on starting!!
And very careful acceleration.

Finally I returned to home safely, but take about 1.5 hours for 20km. (normally less than one hour)

Checked broken link plate with scope. It is metal fatigue due to tensil stress cycle after small crack. (I found start point of crack and shell mark of fatigue sign)

My estimation of process of broken is follows;
1. 1st small crack was occurred by chain connect and remove because I had bend to inside link plate for connect and remove.
2. It has tensile stress in forward and backward pedaling (it's fixed gear), 1st small crack should be propergated.
3. Inside link plate was broken. I could not find. However, I heard some noise from somewhere before few minutes of derailed chain.
4. Finally, then accelerated bike, broken link was in front of rear cog, outside link plate was pulled by big pedaling force and bending to outside direction, chain derailed!

Why chain link crack occurred?
In my opinion is this chain's connect link specification is not so good for many time connect and remove.
I wrote I had to bend to inside link for connect and remove chain. I did two or three times.
Link plate has large strain at sometime, perhaps over the yield point of metal material or small crack was occurred.....

I purchased new chain is not necessary bend for connect and remove.

I have to check other critical points.
Brake wire, brake pad and other.....

Keep fun and take care!!!

Bye.

Change some parts my fixed gear bike

Hi,

As I wrote this blog, I did buy new wheel for my Kissena bike.
Finally, I changed wheel from carbon wheel and gear ratio.

My new wheel is assembled with kinlin TB-25 rim and red color hub and DT 2.0mm 32 spokes.
This time tire my choise is TUFO S33 special tire.

So, I can adjust spoke and run out of carbon wheel.

I did buy FSA track chan ring for change gear ratio. Current ratio was 48x18(2.67), new is 50x16(3.13). New is 17% faster.

My first impression of checking riding.
Wheel stiffness is enough. TUFO tire is also good. I am not sure about gear ratio is much or not. I will test on tomorrow morning.

Bye,

Change setting of my fixed gear bike

Hi,

In my new year holiday, I changed setting of my fixed gear bike.
Saddle and Handle bar were changed.

Saddle: Concor lite to Fizik Alione
Handle: Carbon deep to FSA conpact shallow
Both parts are from my room(former roadbike parts)

Saddle;
Concor lite is better for not move siiting position and little bit hard. If I ride without racing pants, I feel pain on my hip!!
Alione is flat of top surface, I can move sitting position and little bit soft. I can ride with or without racing pants both. And one more advantage is Alione is more longer of saddle tale. This is good for up hill condition.

Handle bar:
Previous carbon handle drop dimension is very deep. It is good for sprint position but uncomfortable. FSA is small drop, it is good for constant high speed running. But little bit difficult to high power sprint....
Difficult to adjust for achieve both.

I will report again later.

Bye,

New wheel for fixed gear bike

Hi

Last week, my condition was so bad, but now I am recovered.

Today's topic is wheel of my fixed gear bike.
I use a carbon rim rear wheel that was assembled by my self. However, I have only one for fixed gear bike. I would like to adjust this wheel (spoke tension and run out)

So, I did buy aluminum rim tubular rear wheel.
Specifications are;
Rim: Kimlin TB-25...tubular rim 32H
Hub: forgot supplier name...very cheap Red color
Spoke: DT2.0mm straight Black
Assembled by shop staff.

Red color hub is match to my flame color!!

I got this on last weekend. But I just checked only. I will set up to my bike on next week. Because this weekend, I will go to trip for snowboarding!! I have no time.

And also I got a chain ring for fixed.
Currently I use 48T one. New one is 50T.
I can choose so many gear ratio with combination of chain rings and rear cogs.
50T ring is made by FSA, it is nice looking!!

I will report both after set up and running,

Bye.

My Fixed Gear Bike

Hi,
Introduce my fixed gear bicycle and process of assembly.
My fixed gear bike frame is Affinitycycles Kissena.

In last year November, I think I want a new machine, but carbon road frame is expensive.
I also think "Fixed gear bike is good solution for skill up to my pedaling".

So, I did look on so many web pages. I find very cool looks frame, this is kissena by affinitycycles that did run in CMWC2009 Tokyo by Alex.
I decide to buy this!!

However, it was long way to complete bike....delay and delay....I think frame factory had difficult some thing may be. Therefore I did prepare other components and consider my riding position with skeleton drawing. It was fun time!!

Kissena is real track racer, it has no brake hole each side (Front Fork and rear of frame) and no hole for bottle cages. Bottle issue is not so big problem, but brake hole issue is big problem for running on Japanese public road. In Japanese row, bicycle should have front and rear brake both!!

My Idea is very simple way, I replace the front fork with brake hole (for road bike) and Diacompe long reach rear brake use.

Main components specifications;
Rear Wheel: Use former my road-bike carbon rim --> replace hub and assemble by myself
Front wheel: Use same as road bike...hub space is same (100mm)
Crank: SRAM omnium 167.5mm 48T
Brake lever: Cane Creek lever..it is good looking
Handle bar: Carbon handle...from former road bike.

Last August, I got kissena frame from Affinitycycles. Red color is very beautiful!! like this.

Seat mast is like airplane wing shape.

Assembly process was very smooth. but my legs is short....I have to cut seat mast of frame..Damn....

During Assembly photo, after take photo I had to cut seat mast and fork column.

Complete assemble!!

My impression;
It is very stiff frame, not comfortable...but acceleration performance is Awesome!!
Handling character is quite quick and BB to center dimension is very short, I have to carefully in deep turn condition, hit my feet to front tire, it's dangerous.
I am satisfy and enjoy ride!!

Now I try to change gear ratio for each situations. (Long ride, up and down, sprint and other!!)

I will report again later.

Bye
